Crew Week in Review: May 16 – 22

3-4. Well at least it’s an improvement over last week, a week that I won’t speak about for fear of going into a bit of a rant. The fact is they ran into some actual talent on the road and were tested. Anyways, this week was still disappointing. We should have been able to take 2 of 3 from the Twins at home. They have had a down year, so far, and we had favorable pitching matchups throughout the series. In addition, we always play poorly out West. We will continue to play poorly out there even as we get better, it’s just one of those facts of life that I think we have to endure. All that being said, it is always good to look forward. We close out the series with the Dodgers tonight (9 pm ct) and then it’s off to San Diego for a three game set with the Friars, followed by a home series against the impressive-looking Braves. I’m not feeling overly confident about the next week, but I think tonight will be a big indicator. If Cappy is able to go 6 strong and the Brewers come away with a win, I think we may have some momentum heading into Petco. I just want to address one thing before I get to my player of the week and daily prediction. There has been a clamor amongst Brewer Nation and at to have Ryan Braun called up. I want to go on record now that I believe this would be a bad idea. I have heard before, but unfortuntely don’t understand it, that if Braun were to be called up now, his arbitration clock would start early and it would mean that he would be arbitration eligible sooner than usual. We cannot risk future expenses at the cost of this season. Braun needs the little extra seasoning down at AAA to work on his defense and we need to keep our future relatively inexpensive in order to keep the nucleus of the team together when Fielder, Hardy, Weeks, and others come up for contract renewals.

Brewer of the Week: JJ Hardy, what more can be said

Next game: Tonight, Brewers @ Dodgers 9pm CT

  • Chris Capuano vs Brad Penny
  • Predictions:
    • Don’t have a good feeling about this one. Brad Penny has been pretty lights out over the past few games. Brewers 2 Dodgers 4
    • JJ Hardy continues to mash the ball, gets out of LA with 2 hits (edit: So much for that prediction.  Hardy gets the night off)
    • Hall continues to work out of his slump and gets a double
    • Capuano goes 5 innings with 4 K, 3 BB, and 3 ER
