Crew Week in Review: May 23 – 29

The sky is falling!! The sky is falling!!  Had I wrote this post a day ago at this time, that would have been my sentiment.  I would have noted that over the past week we had went 0-5 (now 1-5) and all facets of our game looked anemic.  Our pitching was being roughed up, and our offense was absolutely non-existent, scoring 11 runs over the 5 losses going into yesterday night.  Even our defense was starting to show holes.  But last night and some of the events of the past week have allowed for the optimism to bubble up from the depths.  For one, we played some very good teams.  All six games were against teams with records over .500 and 5 of those games, all of the loses of the past week, came away from the friendly confines and, even worse, were on the West coast.  Secondly, even though I didn’t like the move initially, Ryan Braun was called up to plug the offensive black hole at 3B.  We are now seeing the concept of a good home grown team coming to fruition.  The top four batters in last night’s line up were Rickie Weeks, JJ Hardy, Ryan Braun, and Prince Fielder.  All of these players were drafted and molded by the Brewers to be the starts of tomorrow, and now, tomorrow is today.  In fact, the only player in last night’s starting line up not to be drafted by the Brewers was Johnny Estrada.  And speaking of last night, it wasn’t pretty, but there were flashes of the team of a month ago.  We were able to capitalize on errors and miscues by the Braves.  Also, Sheets was able to overcome some problems in the first to pitch a solid game.  We need to build on this momentum and surge ahead to dominate this homestand.

Brewer of the Week: Ryan Braun (Hit is first MLB Homerun and has shown off his solid swing and will be a great replacement for the players @ 3B that I refuse to mention by name.

Next Game: Today, Braves @ Brewers,  12:05 Central (No TV, so tune into Uke and Powell

  • Tim Hudson (5-3, 2.79 ERA) vs Dave Bush (3-5, 6.13 ERA)
  • I think the recent statement by Doug Melvin (Yovani Gallardo is nearly ready to be called up) lights a fire under Bush and pushes him to a solid outing
  • Dave Bush 7.1 IP, 2ER, 6K, 2BB (Also gets a hit himself)
  • After last night I can see Hall continue to work himself out of his slump, and he gets a HR to prove it.
  • Braun continues to perform up to expectations, gets at least 2 hits
  • Brewers 6, Braves 2
